How To Check Page Speed in Google Analytics
Earlier if you wanted to check your website's page speed using Google analytics, you could find it in Site speed under Behaviours.
This no longer works after the GA4 update, at least not without setting custom tags and jumping between differant platforms.
Luckily, you can still find Page Speed using PageSpeed Insights. Here's a short tutorial on how to check page speed
- Go to PageSpeed Insights and enter your website URL in the text field.
- Hit Analyze
- Navigate between Mobile and Desktop to get performance reports for each
- The Core Web Vitals metrics are FCP, LCP, and CLS.
- Scroll Down to get overall performance score as per PageSpeed Insights
Note:
- FCP: First Contentful Paint measures the time for the initial content to appear on a webpage, signaling loading speed and user perception. A fast FCP is vital for a positive user experience.
- LCP Largest Contentful Paint gauges webpage loading by timing when the largest content element appears. It mirrors the perceived loading speed of primary content, crucial for user experience.
- CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift): CLS quantifies the visual stability of a webpage by measuring the amount of unexpected layout shifts that occur during the page's loading phase. Minimizing CLS means a smoother browsing experience.
You can also explore other reports and opportunities within Google Analytics to optimize your site's speed and user experience.
