Use this interactive demo to learn how to connect Jira with Gmail using a Zapier automation.

Quick summary

This tutorial shows how to integrate Jira with Gmail using Zapier Zaps, so that Jira trigger events automatically fire Gmail actions without any manual effort. The setup takes just minutes and requires no coding — only your Jira and Gmail account credentials.

Steps

  1. Go to the left-side panel in Zapier, then click 'Create'.
  2. Choose 'Zaps' from the list of options.
  3. Tap 'Trigger' to start the integration process.
  4. Search for 'Jira' and select the Jira tool you want to integrate.
  5. Select your preferred 'Trigger Event' from the available options.
  6. Tap 'Sign In' to authenticate your Jira account.
  7. Specify the Jira version you prefer, then click 'Yes, Continue to Jira Software Cloud'.
  8. Select your preferred Jira site and click 'Accept' to grant access.
  9. Fill out the input fields with the required information to set up the Trigger.
  10. Click 'Continue' to proceed to the next step.
  11. Click 'Continue With Selected Record' to confirm the trigger data.
  12. Search for 'Gmail' and select it as the Action app.
  13. Click the drop-down menu and choose your preferred 'Action Event'.
  14. Click 'Sign In' and log into your active Gmail account.
  15. Click 'Continue' to confirm the Gmail connection.
  16. Provide the details needed to set up the Action accordingly.
  17. Click 'Continue' to run your inputs and publish the integration.
  18. Your Jira account is now integrated with Gmail and the automation is live.

📌 Why this matters

Integrating Jira with Gmail via Zapier eliminates the need to manually track issue updates across two separate platforms, saving engineering and project management teams significant time. When a Jira trigger event fires — such as a new issue or status change — Zapier automatically sends a Gmail action, keeping stakeholders informed in real time. This no-code automation reduces context switching, accelerates incident response, and ensures that project updates reach the right people through the tools they already use every day.
